Sorry if I missed this, but were there specific things you didn’t like? Or just general FCA shit quality?

1. I’m a performance car guy (learned it the hard way)
2. The jeep has 3,800 miles and has been less reliable than the 2007 Volvo S60R it replaced
3. Jeep Dealers Suck
4. It’s too small

They have the NVH of a 20 year old Toyota. They aren’t great.

As a Jeep owner, I read the first post with interest. I get it. If you buy a vehicle you don’t like, get rid of it and move on. Life’s too short. But to the commenters, it’s not the vehicle’s fault. WRT Jeeps, they ain’t cars guys. Don’t buy one expecting a car. I put 176,000 miles on my 2006 and loved every minute. They aren’t $60k SUVs, so they are a study in compromise. If you want a four door convertible with a manual transmission and 4wd, you aren’t going to get excellent NVH reviews for 23k out the door.

Honestly, I don’t understand why people who want cars buy SUVs. I have an suv for a particular subset of reasons, but when I rent a ford focus and see what you can get for 15k - cars are a great value compared to SUVs.

Wranglers aren’t terrible. That’s saying hiking boots are terrible running shoes or loafers.

They are unreliable money pits. They are terrible. They are good for one specific thing. That’s it. Where most sports cars can at least be good at maybe two things, the Jeep excells at one thing. A thing that you can do nearly as well in say, a Tacoma or 4Runner, and have something completely liveable and cheap to run.

I take it you’ve had reliability issues or know someone who has. I guess others don’t share that experience. As a guy who drives with the top down most of the time, I would challenge you to cut the roof off a Tacoma or 4Runner and throw a tarp over it, then talk about a liveable 4wd that holds four players plus coach and two dogs. It’s a unique product, and unless Ford does a full ragtop Bronco or LR starts importing reliable Defenders, it’s got a market position. Honestly, I am curious why you’re so sour. Did you have a bad experience owning one or is like, that just your opinion, man?

First generation 4Runner did have a removable top lol. And a solid front axle available the first couple of years if you’d like to go there.

I’ll go there. 4 runner with top off has a roof over the front seats. Not equal. Also no longer available. 72 Chevy Blazer full convertible. Also not available. Repeat as needed, until you find a new vehicle with warranty that is 4wd, full convertible, manual transmission, seats 4, can DD. Not worth debating. You don’t like Jeeps. I highly recommend you don’t buy one, because you won’t like it.

I’ve never owned a Wrangler, but you and I have talked about 4Runner ownership, and I have been fairly lucky. The wife’s literal dream car is a Wrangler, so at some point, we will own one. Having said that, I think one of the key differences MIGHT be, you have to try to kill a 4Runner, with poor maintenance, driving like an ass, falling asleep at the wheel and Bo Duking a mailbox, which I totally never did. You don't really have to try to kill a Wrangler.

My friend got rid of his Wrangler when he realized that the Toyota pickup he bought to drive when the Wrangler was broken(not joking), was just as capable.

I’m with ya 100%. I have a $1500 Cherokee that looks presentable (pretty much rust free), tows a snowmobile trailer with 2 heavy old sleds, works well on Michigan sand dunes in the summer, and has never broken anything other than a MAP sensor and a door handle. Sure, it’s a rattle trap and rides like a lumber cart, but a $1500 Toyota anything with 4x4 is probably either non-operational or have terminal cancer. Like “I can see daylight through the quarter panels” cancer. No thanks. Jeeps are cheap trucklets that are alarmingly hard to break.

I’m really late and just stumbled across this. But I completely agree. They’re shit cars and every single high school girl apparently wants one for whatever reason.

They’re unreliable, overpriced and horribly built. I’m not sure why anybody would buy one unless they actually go offroading or something.
